It was one of the coldest days of the year, February 14, 2007, and the District Child Health folks were having a Smoothie!  What were we thinking?  Well, it was Heart Health Month, and we wanted to get our hearts pumping!  Sharing low-fat smoothie recipes, whipping them up in a blender, and tasting different flavors, sounded like a good idea!  Believe what you will, but on that cold afternoon, we were not “shaking” from sipping our smoothies.  No-- we were shaking and moving to some music!  That’s right.  We were shaking and moving all over the place.  We had a special guest, local disc jockey, Mandy, from K-Country 104, who came to teach us new dance moves.  We learned a line dance that we could do to any type of music, and everyone had a chance to get their hearts pumping and their feet moving!  Oh, remember those cold smoothies? ...Well, they were a refreshing treat after working up a sweat, moving our feet, and dancing to the beat!

Some of us got “hooked” on a smoothie!    Others were “hooked” on a new dance step!

The Hooked on Health kickoff was just what I needed to motivate me to focus on a healthier lifestyle. I started dieting and exercising January 9th. I lost 33 pounds and 30 inches in 16 weeks. One thing that really helped me was being able to walk at work. I always felt like I didn't have time to walk but now I don't have the exuse. I thank God for this program; it's a great benefit! I hope everyone will take advantage of this program. Let's show Dr. Grant how much we appreciate it by our results. I have so much more energy, feel less stressed, and fell better about my appearance and myself.
Here's to Hooked on Health,

5/9/06 Way to Go!, Lynn Burson,Child Health Director
Hooked on Health Focus: Healthy Body, Weight Loss, God.
Lynn has learned to focus on "stomach hunger" not on "head hunger". She has learned to stop eating when she is satisfied and not to continue eating just to "clean her plate". It is good to feed your body when you are hungry but emotional eating is not good. Lynn has been working on changing her focus from the refrigerator to her Creator. She also has been diligent in walking to enhance her weight loss and improve her cardio vascular health. She has lost over 30 lbs and 18". What an inspiration she is to us all. - Debora Beers

5/4/06 Congratulations! Rose Griffith-
She is our clerk/interpreter at Grady County Health Department. Her focus was to stop smoking, and she stopped on April 1, 2006. We are all proud of her. - Carolyn Fincher

Jim started riding his bike to work last July. He rides to work 2/3 days a week. His wife has encouraged healthy eating by preparing meals of lean meats, fish and vegetables. Jim also does weight training. He has lost 15 pounds since July and he feels great! -Jim Pericaud

"One of our staff members has become hooked on health! She is exercising and eating better. So far, she's lost 6 pounds- - but the big kicker is that she takes blood pressure medicines and on her last visit to her doctor, her blood pressure was down!!" - Unknown

"Walking 5 times a week, eating low fat food, and drinking at least 64 ounces of water every day is really paying off for me. Since January 3, 2006, I have loss 10 pounds." -Tammie Horton

When I went to my pulmonary doctor on Monday (2/6/06) I had a regular breathing test done. When the doctor got my results, he compared those results to the results of a breathing test I had back in 1999. In other words, my illness is regressing and not progressing. I believe it's due to God answering prayer & the exercise I've been doing.' - Regina Kerlegon
