ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
The Environmental Health Program includes the
following services: Food Service Establishment Evaluations, On-site Sewage
Management System Evaluations, Water Quality Services, Tourist Court
Evaluations, Complaint Investigations, Rabies Control, Institutional
Inspections, Disease and Vector Investigations and Consultation Services
regarding Public Health concerns.

Environmental Health's "On-Site Sewage Waste
Management Systems" program evaluates land and issues permits for the purpose of installing on-site sewage
management systems according to State regulations and any additional local
ordinances.

Food safety guidelines
The
Food Services component of the Environmental Health Program review
plans, inspects and permits food service establishments according to State Food
Service Regulations.
The
Water Quality component of Environmental Health consults with
individuals and businesses on the development and protection of drinking water
supplies for individual wells. Environmentalists issue permits for well
locations and construction, sample individual water supplies, perform bacterial
testing, and instruct owners on treatment. Well Water Brochure

Tourist Court Evaluations
include plan reviews, permitting of establishments and at least two routine
inspections annually
for compliance with State Tourist Accommodation Rules.
The Swimming Pool program covers plan review, inspection and permitting for public pools
according to state regulations.
Complaint Investigations: Environmental Health investigates complaints of a public health nature: leaking
sewage, solid waste, mosquito, fly, rodent problems.
Rabies Control:
All animal bites are investigated to evaluate and control the spread of this
disease in both humans and animals. Proper quarantine procedures are
enforced, and specimens are submitted to the lab for testing.
Environmental Health Specialists consult with victims and their physicians
regarding recommendations for treatment when needed. Report all animal
bites or contacts to Environmental Health at 229-438-3943.
Institutional Inspections:
Institutional evaluations are done on a
request basis on detention facilities, mental health facilities, adoptive homes
and foster homes (for DFCS), and senior service centers for compliance with
optimum program guidelines provided by the State.
Disease Investigations: Investigation
of potential disease outbreaks from environmental sources, such as food, water, sewage,
and vectors (such as mosquitoes, ticks, and wild animals).

Air Quality, Asbestos, Formaldehyde, Occupational Health,
Infectious Disease, Injury Control, and Lead-based Paint Exposure.
