Child Health

The Child Health Program includes the following programs and services: Children 1^st, Children's Medical Services, Early Intervention/Babies Can't Wait, Sickle Cell/Genetics and Health Checks:

The Children 1^st Program screens all children at birth to identify families with special needs.  Children 1st also serves as a single point of entry for children up to age four, needing a variety of specialty services.  Children are linked with a primary health care provider in their community for regular health checkups, developmental screening, health education and counseling.

Children's Medical Services assures a community-based, coordinated, family-focused, comprehensive system of quality specialty health care for children, birth to 21 years, with chronic medical conditions or handicapping conditions.

Early Intervention/Babies Can't Wait (EI/BCW) is Georgia's statewide interagency service delivery system for infants and toddlers (birth to third birthday) with developmental delays or disabilities.  Babies Can't Wait assures children, regardless of disability/income, access to services that will enhance their development.

Health Check is a statewide program created for children from birth to 21 years of age.  The program helps to establish appropriate health care practices and assures that health problems are diagnosed and treated early.  Physical assessment, referral and case management services are provided.
